Sarcoidal Type Foreign Body Reaction: A Case Report
Sarcoidosis and foreign body reactions are common differential diagnoses of skin granuloma formation. We report a 40 year –old man with sarcoid type granulomas containing polarized foreign materials, and also bilateral hilar adenopathy. It appears that detection of foreign bodies in histopatologic studies of granulomas does not necessarily exclude the possibility of sarcoidosis.
متن کاملInvasive Intraneural Interfaces: Foreign Body Reaction Issues
Intraneural interfaces are stimulation/registration devices designed to couple the peripheral nervous system (PNS) with the environment. Over the last years, their use has increased in a wide range of applications, such as the control of a new generation of neural-interfaced prostheses. At present, the success of this technology is limited by an electrical impedance increase, due to an inflamma...

متن کاملMacrophages, Foreign Body Giant Cells and Their Response to Implantable Biomaterials
All biomaterials, when implanted in vivo, elicit cellular and tissue responses. These responses include the inflammatory and wound healing responses, foreign body reactions, and fibrous encapsulation of the implanted materials. Macrophages are myeloid immune cells that are tactically situated throughout the tissues, where they ingest and degrade dead cells and foreign materials in addition to o...
متن کاملA review of the biocompatibility of implantable devices: current challenges to overcome foreign body response.
In recent years, a variety of devices (drug-eluting stents, artificial organs, biosensors, catheters, scaffolds for tissue engineering, heart valves, etc.) have been developed for implantation into patients. However, when such devices are implanted into the body, the body can react to these in a number of different ways. These reactions can result in an unexpected risk for patients. Therefore, ...
